Color Theory

Colors are a terrific way to convey meaning in art, however everyone would need to view the colors in the same way.

Being color blind has allowed me an opportunity to view the world in an alternative way. Only about eight percent of the population on earth sees the world in the same way that I do, and of people that share my perspective most could not agree that the colors we see are the same.

As a child being color blind was a major challenge, not wanting to be judged for something that was out of my control led to frustrating moments throughout my life.

Years after being diagnosed, a moment of clarity came through a book on photography. As I turned the pages, one page caused me to stop and stare. A photograph by Ansel Adams’s was a of a mountain in western United States taken in black and white.

As an artist Ansal Adams took color out of his work and was still able to convey the beauty of an image. His perspective offered something that I did not believe existed prior to seeing his work.

To this day, I still prefer black and white photography over color because once we remove the barriers that divide us, we can see an image equally.
